Deborah Sun lives ‘rent-free’ in Ara Mina’s condo for 7 years: ‘Nabubuhay ako sa tulong ng tao’

Deborah Sun has shared her current life situation as a veteran actress who has been living off the help of other celebrities.

In a vlog by Snooky Serna uploaded last Saturday, June 24, Deborah revealed her difficulty in getting back into the showbiz industry.

The 64-year-old actress was prominent in the eras of the late ‘70s and ‘80s. Among the projects she became popular for were Bedspacers, Temptation Island, and Pakawalan Mo Ako.

In 2019, Deborah was nabbed for using illegal drugs, sending her acting career down the drain. She admitted that she is still seen by others in a bad light.

“Alam ko marami may ayaw sa akin, lalo na sa pinagdaanan ko. Iniisip na nagda-drugs pa ako. Masakit dahil hindi na naalis sa isip nila, sa utak nila. Kaya nga wala akong project dahil doon, e. Yun na nakatatak na sa utak nila.”

Deborah confessed that she has been living off other celebrities’ help.

“I’ll be straight, nabubuhay ako sa tulong ng tao,” said Deborah.

She added that there were some who have grown tired of helping her which she completely understood, “Hindi na ako sad naman, siyempre, alam mo, ang tao… people get fed up. Siguro napagod sila kakatulong, which is, hindi ko naman ginusto nitong buhay ko, e.”

“Mahirap maging mahirap,” Deborah lamented.

“Pero kung ayaw niyo sa akin, wala akong magagawa. Hindi ko para halikan ang paa niyo, whatever. Parang, [kung] gusto niyo, ako, this is me,” Deborah said.

“This is me, I’m Gigi Salvador, or Deborah Sun or, generally speaking, if you like me, thank you so much,” she expressed.

Deborah revealed the celebrities who have been aiding her, including fellow actress Ara Mina who lent her condo unit to the former without charging anything. She has been residing in it for seven years.

“Up to now, nakatira ako sa isang unit niya diyan sa Cubao for seven years,” said Deborah.

“Ara Mina, thank you so much. For seven years, wala akong binabayaran talaga sa upa… big help. Sobra, lalo wala akong trabaho,” Deborah expressed her gratitude to the actress, who despite being in another country has never let Deborah slip out of her mind.

Aside from the free accommodation, Deborah added that Ara has also been sending her grocery items.

Her uncle, Phillip Salvador, has also reached out to help Deborah.

“Kung tutuusin, hindi niya ako obligasyon. Pamangkin lang niya ako, e,” Deborah said.

“Pamangkin lang niya ako through my dad. Pero kumbaga, pag humingi akong tulog, hindi nagdadalawang-salita.”

Celebrity host Boy Abunda also did not hesitate to help the veteran actress.

“Hindi ako obligasyon ni Boy. Pero pag umano ako kay Boy, kahit ano, kung umano ako kay Boy, pang-ospital, andiyan si Boy Abunda talaga,” she said.

Likewise, actress-politician Aiko Melendez, the half-sibling of one of Deborah’s children Jam Melendez, had also lent a hand to Deborah.

“Talagang provided niya lahat yung mga pagdating sa medical, pang-doktor, Pasko, Bagong Taon…,” said Deborah.

Deborah regarded the people who are helping her get through hardships are brought about by God’s blessings.

“Inaano ko lagi na, sabi ko, ‘Lord, naku kung di sa Iyo, wala na, kawawa na buhay namin mag-iina. Kumbaga, Ikaw lagi nandiyan. Ikaw ang bumubulong sa mga puso ng mga tao ang tumutulong sa amin, sa aming mag-iina,’” she said.

Deborah is one of the five children of late actor-director Leroy Salvador with actress Corazon “Baby” Porcuna. She is the niece of Phillip Salvador, half-sibling of Jobelle Salvador, and the first cousin of Maja Salvador.
