Iza Calzado shares COVID-19 journey, apologizes for ‘insensitive’ social media comment

“I am alive and for that I am truly grateful.”

Early Monday, Iza Calzado shared her coronavirus disease (COVID-19) journey a week after she tested negative for the virus and was discharged from the hospital. The actress also said sorry for her “insensitive” social media comment.

In her first social media post after healing from the illness, Calzado apologized to anyone who was offended by a comment she made on Lea Salonga’s Instagram post

“Please know that I would never intentionally say anything to hurt others nor celebrate anyone else’s suffering. I am a hopeful person and always try to see the silver lining in every dark cloud. I am sad that you missed my heart but I also understand your sentiments,” she said.

Calzado’s said comment drew flak after she said the disease was a way to make the world a better place.

Her comment read: “I agree with this and have been thinking about how the Covid situation is actually the Universe’s way of making the world a better place moving forward. Praying for the best.”

The 37-year-old Kapamilya star tested positive for the disease on March 28. She was, however, ill with pneumonia and a bacteria called acinetobacter baumannii for two weeks, she said.

“I am alive and for that I am truly grateful. I know that so many of you sent your love and support and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you,” she said.

She thanked the doctors and nurses of Asian Hospital for “going above and beyond” to make sure she would get another shot at life.

Calzado also sent her gratitude to her friends, family and ABS-CBN colleagues who made sure she was doing fine.

“Today, I encourage you to take a moment to thank God for your breath, thank Him for everything and everyone in your life and let us continue to pray for those who are suffering and for those who are trying their best to help those in need. Together, we can overcome all of this. Mabuhay,” she ended.
