Actor and Ormoc city mayor Richard Gomez’s painting drew criticism online as a photo of it went viral on Facebook yesterday, October 10.
The viral photo of Richard with his artwork was shared by a private citizen on Facebook. It now has 35k reactions, 11k comments and 28k shares.
The painting is part of this year’s ManilArt exhibition at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City.
Titled “OOOOHH,” Goma’s 48”x 48” painting depicts what appears like the male genitalia. It was presented using black and yellow acrylic paint on wood. It’s price? A whopping P196,000.
For its price and suggestive subject, netizens were quick to comment on the painting.
One netizen wrote, “Hindi naman art yan. Bakit sinali pa ng mga judge? Alin ba ang artistic dyan?”
“Lahat pala tayo pwede maging artist, kasi karamihan sa atin nung high school or college dumaan sa pagddrawing niyan, madalas sa notebook ng tropa/kaklase natin, minsan sa mukha ng kaibigan nating lasing. Sana pala tinuloy tuloy natin at kinulayan natin ng yellow para artist naa tayo,” another comment said.
“Madaming ganto sa bakod ng kapitbahay namin, pero tawag nila vandalism,” one said.
Meanwhile, Gomez hasn’t made any statement on his social media accounts even if these were tagged in posts critical of his painting.
