SM MOA Globe turns purple for BTS’ 10th anniversary

The best moment has come at SM Mall of Asia as it celebrated K-pop superstar boy band BTS’ 10th anniversary by turning its iconic globe into purple, on Tuesday, June 13.

“HAPPY 10th Year BTS from SM Mall of Asia! BORAHAE BTS and ARMY! ARMY Forever, BANGTAN Forever ???,” the official page wrote in the caption under the photo of the purple globe.

A group of ARMYs based in Cavite kickstarted the purple event after proposing their plan to illuminate the MOA Globe in the signature color of BTS as part of this year’s BTS Festa.

“9 hours ago, we proposed to illuminate the MOA Globe in purple in honor of #2023BTSFESTA, thanks to the PH ARMY, this vision will come to life,” the Army Cavite fanbase wrote in their tweet.

The fanbase shared that in just nine hours, they were able to collect an amount of P63,177.66 to make the fan project possible in the Philippines.

SM organizers have put together activities for the fans, encouraging them to “wear their best purple outfits” and get spotted with the purple globe to win exciting prizes.

A firework display was also scheduled at the MOA Complex to “illuminate the skies for BTS who continues to light up ARMYS’ world”.

Several hotspots around Seoul also went full BTS mode with various events and activities, including a special commemorative stamp series, as it marked the group’s 10-year anniversary.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys or Bangtan Sonyeondan, debuted on June 13, 2013 with seven members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook under Big Hit Entertainment now rebranded as HYBE.

The band went on to become a sensation in the industry as it took the world by storm, dominating the US and UK charts and establishing a global fanbase in the process.

As of now, the group is currently on hiatus, with two members temporarily dispatched for their mandatory South Korean military service. However, the boys made sure to celebrate their decade in music as they released their new digital single, Take Two.

The hashtag “10 years with BTS” has since dominated Twitter’s Philippine trends as of 10:40 AM.
