Why is COVID-14 trending on Twitter?

Netizens took to Twitter to share their thoughts upon seeing COVID-14 become a trending topic on the social media platform on Wednesday.

A netizen apparently shared a short clip of Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado Revilla mistakenly saying COVID-14 instead of COVID-19 in a Facebook Live uploaded on her page on Tuesday.

The Twitter community was quick to make memes, puns and reactions out of it.

In the video, Mayor Revilla informed the viewers what the Bacoor LGU has been doing for so far for its constituents amid the COVID-19 enhanced community quarantine. She also told them to help each other and be united in the fight against the current health crisis.

On February 11, 2020, the World Health Organization officially announced  “COVID-19” as the name of the new disease previously known as the “novel coronavirus”.

The new coronavirus has greatly affected countries across the world with over 1.3 million confirmed cases, and 80,000 deaths as of writing.
