Imee Marcos gets bashed for joining #UPFight photo

Several lawmakers joined in on the excitement and cheered for their alma maters during the UAAP Season 82’s do-or-die game between UP Fighting Maroons and UST Growling Tigers on Wednesday, but Senator Richard Gordon’s #UPFight post has irked several netizens.

The reason? Senator Imee Marcos was included in the photo.

A few minutes before the much-awaited game of the UP and UST basketball teams, Senator Gordon posted a photo with fellow senators Nancy Binay, Miguel Zubiri and Imee Marcos with the caption: “Cheering for UP! #UPFight @upmbt.”

“Imee Marcos” instantly trended on Twitter, receiving feedback from netizens who questioned the lady senator’s inclusion in the photo with senators who are UP graduates.

The senator’s educational attainment at the University of the Philippines became controversial during the May 2019 elections when photos of her supposed graduation from the UP College of Law in 1983 got contradicted by the State U, which said that she took courses but did not graduate from the country’s top university.

Here are some of the netizens’ take on the photo:

Netizens also noticed Marcos pointing to her red scarf, while other senators were showing off the maroon colors they were wearing to support the UP Fighting Maroons.
