The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil lit up to honor frontliners, including from the Philippines, who are risking their lives to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a Facebook post on April 20, Dra. Joy Mercader shared photos of the world-famous statue projected with a doctor’s uniform and stethoscope, and the Philippine flag with the words “Salamat (Thank you)” and “Pag-asa (Hope)”.

The Philippines currently has 6,981 cases, 462 deaths, and 722 recoveries.
On Friday morning, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that the enhanced community quarantine has been extended until May 15, 2020 in the country’s high-risk areas to further contain the spread of COVID-19.
