Baron Geisler recently opened up on his hardships during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The actor shared that being away from his family took a toll on him, making him resort to drinking alcohol again.
In the first episode of Pilipino Star Ngayon’s Mental Wellness webinar series, the 38-year-old revealed that he was stuck in Manila when the lockdown took place in the country.
While his family was back in Cebu, he was in a condominium alone for three months. “That’s when all of my demons, my depression, it all came out,” he said.
“Gumawa ako ng sarili kong realidad at dahil doon nahirapan akong mag-connect sa mga tao kahit sa pamilya ko at sa mga taong gustong tumulong, who are actually trying to reach out,” he explained.
He said he tried to push away those who wanted to connect with him, even his wife Jamie Santiago, because he didn’t want to be a burden.
Baron later on revealed that his difficult time away from his family pushed him to drink alcohol again.
“I thought in my head, I needed to stay strong or be strong and say, ‘You know, love, everything will be okay,’ which I did but apparently that was a big denial on my part because ako mismo I was lying to myself, to my wife. Imbis na natulungan niyo ako o naagapan yung problema ko dahil bumalik ako sa pag-i-inom nang todo,” he said.
Fortunately, his wife made a way to find him a flight back to Cebu so that she could aid with his setback. Once he was back home, she even offered that Baron take a three-day retreat.
Though he refused the retreat to make up for his lost time with his family, Baron was set to recover and sought treatment.
“Ngayon, naiintindihan ko, mas na-po-proseso ko na ang mga bagay bagay. Nandoon na ako sa reality ko at I believe hindi porke’t galing ako treatment, okay na ako, magaling na ako,” he said.
