College student goes viral for walking barefoot on graduation day

It’s graduating season once again and touching stories of students are making rounds on social media. One of these is a heartwarming scene of a graduating college student who went barefoot on stage.

An uploaded video of the Practicum Graduation ceremony of Education students from Bago City College (BCC) went viral as it captured one of its graduates, Anne Rose Quinto, sharing a tender moment with her mother, Girlie, during the Investiture of Hoods program held at Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center (MYTMCC).

Anne, together with her mother, was about to climb up the stage to finally hold her degree in Mathematics, when the latter unexpectedly broke her shoes. What became an interruption turned into a heartwarming event as Anne took off her shoes straight away and offered it to her mother. Anne proudly led her mother to the stage, hand in hand.

The video was uploaded on Facebook by Courier, the official student publication of BCC, and has garnered over 30,000 reactions.

According to Courier, Girlie is a 52-year-old mother and a housewife. Anne Rose is the sixth among her eight siblings. Her spouse earns a living as a fish vendor.

“This act of love and gratefulness is proof of her unconditional love to her mother who was able to support her in reaching her dreams,” Courier wrote in the caption of the viral video.

“Indeed, a true BCCian is not just academically well equipped with knowledge, but someone who has a character that can be proud of,” they added.
