Sara Duterte to treat Davao City cluster with least COVID-19 cases to Chickenjoy, softdrinks

“Chickenjoy” and soft drinks await the cluster or area in Davao City that registers the lowest number of COVID-19 cases.

According to an ABS-CBN report, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will be giving 10,000 pieces of Chickenjoy and 10,000 bottles of 1-liter softdrinks to the cluster with the least coronavirus cases by May 31.

“Kadtong cluster nga pinaka-least of positive cases by May 31, librehon tamo tanan og 10,000 Jollibee Chickenjoy. Of course, first come, first served ni. (‘Yung cluster na may least positive cases by May 31, 2020, librehin ko kayo lahat ng 10,000 fried chicken. Of course, first come, first served ito),” said Mayor Duterte in an interview with 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio on April 22.

The contest, which Duterte also mentioned in an Instagram post, is part of the city government’s ways to encourage the residents to stay at home and contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

“Kinahanglan kamong tanan, magbuhat mo og paagi nga dili motaas ang inyong positive cases (Kailangan kayong lahat, may paraan para hindi na tataas pa ang bilang ng positive cases),” said Mayor Duterte.

As of April 23, Cluster 6 has the least confirmed cases (3), while Cluster 1 records the highest number of cases (45).

Davao City implemented a clustering system last April 20 as part of control measures to keep the public from “roaming around the city, especially from traversing in COVID-19 ‘hotspot’ areas,” a Sunstar report said. Food and medicine passes can only be used by the holder at the district cluster the resident belongs to.

Earlier, the LGU announced that it would adopt the modified community quarantine (MCQ) starting April 27. However, in a statement by Mayor Duterte on Friday, she said that the “city government is bound to extend the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) after April 26 instead of the less restrictive MCQ.”
