April Boy Regino’s wife thanks supporters, Duterte for medical help before singer died

Supporters and netizens have sent their condolences to OPM icon April Boy Regino’s family after he died on Sunday, November 29.

On Monday, November 30, his wife Madelyn Regino acknowledged their show of support in a Facebook post. She also expressed her gratitude to President Duterte for the medical help he extended to the Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin singer-songwriter before he passed away.

According to Madelyn, Duterte sent monthly financial assistance for April Boy’s maintenance medicines since the time he was Davao City mayor. 

“Maraming salamat sa aming mahal na mahal na Pangulo Duterte na mula noon hanggang sa huling laban ng buhay na aking mahal na mahal na asawa Idol April Boy Regino ay hindi niya ito binitawan. Sa hindi po nakakaalam si Tatay Digong po ang nagbibigay buwan buwan para sa maintenance ng mga gamot ni Idol, simula pa nun Mayor pa lang siya hanggang sa naging Presidente na siya,” Madelyn revealed in a post with a photo of a wreath of flowers from the president.

She was also grateful for the tributes to her husband via social media and news media.

Madelyn, April Boy’s wife of 36 years, said in a separate post that her husband died of complications from chronic kidney disease stage five and acute respiratory disease. He was 59 years old.

Prior to his death, he was also battling other ailments such as prostrate cancer and diabetes that affected his eyesight.

The loss of the recording artist, who was born Dennis Regino Magloyuan Magdaraog, was first confirmed on Sunday in a Facebook post by his younger brother Vingo.

The wake is being held at the late singer’s restobar Idolstar at 160 M.H. Del Pilar St., Kalumpang in Marikina City. Those who wish to pay their last respects are requested to observe minimum health protocols such as wearing of masks.
