Slapshock frontman Jamir Garcia found dead at home

Vladimir “Jamir” Garcia, lead singer of Pinoy heavy metal rock band Slapshock, has passed away. He was 42 years old.

According to a Quezon City police report, Jamir was found lifeless by his aunt at his home in Barangay Sangandaan Thursday (November 26) morning.

Jamir was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Police authorities were dispatched to the scene and investigation is underway, as of writing.

Sonboy Garcia, in a Facebook post, mourned the death of his brother and asked netizens to stop sharing photos of his brother’s remains on social media.

Members of the OPM community took to social media to express their shock and grief over the loss of the rock icon. (READ: Rock community mourns death of Slapshock’s Jamir Garcia.)

Jamir, then a balikbayan from the US, became Slapshock’s frontman shortly after the band behind the hit songs Agent Orange, Langit, Cariño Brutal, among others, was formed in 1997 until its reported breakup this year.

A Philstar.com report last October said that the group disbanded after 23 years and at least seven albums due to reported issues among group members.

One of the last songs Jamir wrote for the band was a tribute to COVID-19 frontliners, Sana Pag Gising, which was released last May.

In one of his last Instagram posts, Jamir shared a throwback photo from one of their jam-packed live shows with an encouraging message to fans as caption.

“Kapit lang maayos din ang lahat. ?? #pandemic2020,” he wrote.

Just recently, Jamir and his team went out of their way to distribute relief goods and donations to the victims of Typhoon Ulysses in Rizal.
