Bernadette Sembrano laments losing her job as field reporter

Bernadette Sembrano took to social media to share her thoughts on losing her job as a field reporter.

In a video on her Facebook page, she shared that on Tuesday morning, she received a call from her superior telling her she was retrenched as one of ABS-CBN’s field reporters.

Bernadette said her day started on a positive note with news from the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP) informing her that her membership is coming soon.

The journalist had recently ventured into songwriting and is credited as lyricist of the theme song of the new Kapamilya series Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.

But moments after her good news, she received the call informing her that she lost her job as a field reporter for the broadcast giant’s Lingkod Kapamilya.

“Masakit din but this isn’t the first time that this happened to me that I was enjoying the morning and then pagdating ng hapon medyo not so good news,” she admitted.

Despite the turn of events, Bernadette said she was still amazed at how God was able to bring balance to her life.

“Una kong naisip dapat talaga sa buhay sakto. Para alam mo kung kanino pa rin nanggagaling ang totoong kaligayahan. ‘Wag sosobra kasi pag sumobra baka makalimot ka,” she said.

She also said that her retrenchment was already expected because of the network’s situation.

Bernadette then shared what her best friend told her to lift her spirits.

“Everyday, good things and bad things happen throughout our day and it’s up to us what we want to hold on to and what we want to stay with us if we want to choose to remember the bad stuff or the good stuff,” she shared.

Bernadette, who remains an anchor for ABS-CBN’s flagship news program TV Patrol, is still grateful despite losing one of her jobs.

“I know that every moment I had as a field reporter, wala akong inaksayang panahon and now I am also grateful because officially, I am a songwriter,” she ended.

In July, after ABS-CBN’s franchise was denied by Congress, the media giant announced that their retrenchment program covering the company and its subsidiaries will take effect on August 31.
