Bong Revilla: I am COVID-19 positive

Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. said that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

He made the announcement Sunday evening in a Facebook post where he admitted that he is saddened by the diagnosis.

The senator, nevertheless, told his followers not to be worried over his condition as he assured that he and his wife, Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado, as well as their children are okay.

“I am okay. Sila Lani at ang mga bata ay okay rin at sa awa ng Diyos, ay negative naman lahat,” he said.

Sen. Revilla said that he had himself tested and went to isolation after a member of his household and staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The lawmaker didn’t say how he may have gotten it, but according to him, he went out of their home early this week to attend to his Senate work on Monday and to mark the 40th day after the death of his father, former Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr., on Tuesday.

Upon the advice of his doctor, Revilla will continue his self-quarantine but “will be under observation.”

He also expressed his gratitude to those who offered prayers for his healing and recovery.

“Kasama ang inyong mga dasal at sa grasya ng Panginoon, makakaraos at malalampasan din natin ito,” he said.

“Ngayon pa lang, salamat po sa inyong mga panalangin. Thank you for your prayers,” he added.

In March, the senator lost a long-time staffer to COVID-19. “Mga kababayan, napakabagsik ng sakit na ito. At sa pagdapo nito kung kanino, daig pa ang napakatalas na punglo na babaon sa puso ng mga nagmamahal sa’yo,” he then said.

Revilla is the fourth senator in the country to have contracted the virus. Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sonny Angara and Koko Pimentel had earlier been infected but have since recovered.
