Raffy Tulfo has reached out to veteran actor John Regala, promising him cash aid and more, after photos of him seeking help from a delivery man went viral.
On Monday, a delivery rider named Carlo Clariza shared snaps of the gaunt-looking 55-year-old actor, who asked for his help after experiencing dizziness while waiting for his nurse friend to give him medication.
In a 24 Oras report, a barangay officer shared that John has not been able to eat for 15 days already and has been experiencing vomiting due to his liver cirrhosis.
The news drew concern from netizens, with some of them calling the attention of TV broadcaster Raffy Tulfo to extend assistance to the actor.
In an episode of Idol in Action on Tuesday, host Raffy Tulfo interviewed John over the phone to ask about his condition, leaving the actor emotional.
“Sa totoo lang po, gusto ko nang sumunod sa mama ko. Kasi po nag-iisa na lang ako dito. Ano bang gagawin ko? Hindi ko po alam kung paano po ako magsisimula,” said John, his voice slow and cracking.
Aside from his health condition, John is still grieving the loss of his mother who passed away last January. He currently resides alone in Quezon City after his wife left him for good.
“Iniwan pa po ako ng aking asawa dahil wala na nga po akong pera. Ang iniisip ko pa ‘yung aking career, eh mukhang malabo na po dahil tinalikuran na ako ng industriya. Ako lang pong mag-isa at yung aking aso. Dina-dalaw dalaw lang po ako ng mga kaibigan ko po,” he shared.
Raffy then pledged to John all the available help he and his team can muster, including cash, groceries and medications.
“Magpapa-punta po ako ng reporter d’yan. Lahat po ng klaseng tulong ibibigay namin. Sa ngayon po, magpe-pledge po ako, magbibigay ako sa’yo ng P100,000,” he told the actor.
“At bukod pa ho diyan, magbibigay ho ako ng mga gamot, groceries para sa’yo. At kung ano pa pong maitulong namin,” he added.
John broke down in tears as he thanked Raffy for his help.
“Maraming salamat po. Diyos na po ang bahalang gumanti sa inyo…Pasensiya na po kayo. Salamat po hulog po kayo ng Panginoon. Ginamit po kayo ng Diyos para tulungan ako,” said John.
Raffy also gave an encouraging message to John to not give up on life.
“Lakasan niyo lang po ang loob niyo sir. Hindi naman po kayo bibigyan ng pagsubok ng Panginoon kung hindi niyo kakayanin. Nasa iyo lang po ‘yan. Pero kakayanin niyo po ito. Nandito lang po kami para umalalay at tumulong sa inyo sa abot ng makakaya.”
