Pastor Quiboloy recalls Vice Ganda’s ‘stop’ joke amid ABS-CBN franchise denial

Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has aired his views on the non-renewal of broadcast giant ABS-CBN’s franchise.

Back in November 2019, Vice Ganda jokingly challenged Quiboloy to put a halt to ABS-CBN’s long-running series Ang Probinsyano and the notorious traffic in EDSA, after the latter claimed he personally “stopped” the magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Mindanao.

“So ano, hinahamon kita Quiboloy ipahinto mo nga ang Probinsyano. Napahinto mo pala ang lindol, e. (N)apakayabang niyo pala eh! Sabi niya daw, stop,” Vice said in jest during his noontime show It’s Showtime.

In response, Quiboloy, the self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God,” said: “The challenge is accepted, but hindi ako magsasalita, hihintayin ko na lang.”

The religious leader looked back on Vice’s viral joke in reaction to the Congress’ decision to junk ABS-CBN’s bid for a fresh 25-year franchise during a Facebook live broadcast of his program Give Us This Day on Friday.

“O, di Vice Ganda, alam mo na ngayon, hindi kayo makapangyarihan! Ang Amang nasa langit ang makapangyarihan,” he said.

He also went on to lecture the Kapamilya network for alleged “arrogance”.

“O, challenge accepted, ‘yan napala niyo, di ba? Ngayon marami pa kayong haharaping mga cases ninyo, tax evasion and everything. Kaya huwag magyabang. Huwag yung masyadong mataas ang lipad niyo eh. Parang untouchable na kayo,” Quiboloy alleged.

He said people of influence should be “a good example” to others.

‘’’Pag kapag kayo may impluwensiya kayo, sikat kayo, nakatingala ang mga tao sa inyo, be a good example. Huwag kayong magyabang. Ipakain ninyo ‘yung mabuti. I-guide ninyo yung mga tao sa kabutihan, huwag yung kayabangan, tapos ang yayabang ninyo,” he said.

Vice Ganda has been vocal on expressing support for his home network’s franchise renewal. On Friday, he joined a solidarity caravan to call on the Congress to grant the network its franchise application.

Asked about how he feels about the Congress’ decision to block the franchise, he said: “Ang ABS-CBN, ang serbisyong ibinigay niya ay naging malaking bahagi ng araw-araw na buhay ng mga Pilipino. Napakalaking bahagi.”

“Tungkol ito sa ating lahat. Hindi ito tungkol lang sa mga taga-ABS-CBN, sa mga artista. Tungkol ito sa ating lahat. Tungkol ito sa buhay natin,” he added in an ABS-CBN News report.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN CEO and President Carlo Katigbak in a statement on Friday expressed grief over the network’s denied franchise application.

“We are deeply hurt that the Committee on Legislative Franchises has denied the franchise application of ABS-CBN. We believe that we have been rendering service that is meaningful and valuable to the Filipino public,” he said.

He also thanked everyone who have supported them in their fight for the new franchise.
