ABS-CBN reporters in the US called ‘pigs’ and ‘disease carriers’ during coverage

TJ Manotoc recently revealed his and fellow TV reporter Ginger Conejero’s experience of discrimination during a coverage in the US.

The ABS-CBN News North America Bureau chief made the revelation at the end of his report on a Filipino who was berated by a white couple for writing in chalk the words “Black Lives Matter” in front of a “private property,” which turned out to be his own home.

According to Manotoc, they were shooting a spiel at a public park when a white man came near them, and called them “pigs” and “disease carriers”.

The incident, which happened in March at the global onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, was caught on camera.

In the video, Cornejo can be seen pausing for a moment to call out the man for his harsh words.

They even trailed the American to confront him for his racist remarks but were once again told, “You’re a danger to society.”

Manotoc said that they decided to make the video public to show that they won’t accept and tolerate this kind of incident.

“Gusto namin ilabas ito para makiisa sa ating mga kababayan, para maipakita natin na hindi tayo dapat basta basta bumibigay sa ganitong mga karanasan, at dapat magtulungan tayo para ma-empower ang ating community,” said Manotoc.
