Couple gets married on the spot by city mayor

A couple only looking for a schedule for their civil wedding unexpectedly exchanged “I do’s” when the city mayor decided to officiate their marriage on the spot.

Erica Calandria shared online that she and partner Ronnie Sagum were supposed to tie the knot last April 25, but the wedding got postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The couple then decided on a civil wedding before their marriage license expires and went to the mayor’s office in General Trias City Hall in Cavite last May 29 to set a schedule for their nuptials.

Erica said they were taken by surprise when Mayor Antonion “Ony” Ferrer instead asked if they wanted to get married right away, “and of course we said yes!”

Wearing casual clothes with face masks on, the two got married and put on improvised wedding rings provided by the mayor’s “supportive staff”.

“Been searching for a white dress to wear on my special day, learning how to do make up and hairstyling on my own for my wedding but who would have thought will be ended up wearing checkered shirt, leggings and white shoes with bare face and with mask pa on my wedding?”.

“Ang importante ikaw ang ka ‘I DO’ ko Einnolav Meosjin?❤,” said Erica in a now-viral Facebook post.

“Thank you Lord for this unexpected and memorable day of our life. #LoveInTimesOfPandemic❤️,” the bride happily ended her post.
