The customer service Twitter account of telecommunication company PLDT has been hacked Thursday noon, with the hacker replacing the account name from PLDT Cares to PLDT Doesn’t Care.
In a tweet, the hacker who claimed to be “hactivist” group Anonymous demanded for faster internet connection amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As the pandemic arises, Filipinos need fast internet to communicate with their loved ones. Do your job. The corrupt fear us, the honest support us, the heroic join us. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us,” the hacker tweeted.
In a separate tweet, Anonymous threatened to hack the telecommunication giant Globe next.
“@enjoyGLOBE You’re next. #PLDTHacked”.
The tweet has remained posted for over 30 minutes and counting.
Sources said that the hacking incident is being addressed by the “cyber security group of PLDT now.”
One netizen noticed the irony of a previous tweet from PLDt about “securing WiFi network from unknown users” prior to the hacking.
Some compared the situation to some sort of a Netflix series.
While others tweeted memes probably relating what they feel about the internet provider’s state.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Security Philippines CERT, the first registered computer emergency response team in the Philippines, issued a reminder to business and corporate security practitioners to secure and manage properly companies’ social media accounts to avoid breaches such as the PLDT hacking incident.
As of 1:40 p.m. Thursday, the hacked PLDT account already reverted to its original Twitter handle. Some of the posts from the hackers were deleted, but the first post is still available.
