Ethel Booba throws shade at SEA Games golden cauldron

The Twitter Kween, known for her “charot” but straightforward remarks, is back at it again. This time, on the controversial “Kalderong Ginto”.

Comedienne-singer Ethel Booba said that the pricey golden cauldron would only be worth it if corrupt officials would serve as fuel to light the torch.

“Sulit ang cauldron kung corrupt officials ang gagawing pang gatong sa apoy. Charot!” tweeted Booba on Wednesday night.

The tweet has earned more than 25,000 likes, and around 5,000 retweets as of writing.

The P50 million-worth cauldron built outside the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac, which will be used to keep the SEA Game’s symbolic flame alive for 11 days, has earlier received flak for its “unnecessary extravagance” as described by Senator Franklin Drilon.

The lawmaker also said that the budget for the structure could have been used to build 50 classrooms.

In a report by STAR, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who is also the chair of the Philippine Southeast Asia Games Organizing Committee, denied that the structure was overpriced, adding that it’s priceless and a work of art.

“It’s a requirement in all the games because it symbolizes the games, the competition, the spirit ‘no? So, ‘pag tinanggal mo ‘to, (if we remove this), what price tag can you put on that?” Cayetano said.

“Is it expensive? Yes. But is it worth it? It’s priceless, it’s a work of art,” he added.

The gas that will keep the cauldron’s light burning throughout the event is priced at P5 million.

The cauldron was designed by the late architect and National Artist Francisco Mañosa.
