South Korean police are summoning a Japanese woman for investigation over “kissing” BTS member Jin without his consent during a fan event.
According to multiple media reports, Songpa Police Station in Seoul has summoned the woman, who was caught in viral videos kissing Jin’s neck during the BTS FESTA meet-and-greet event on June 13, 2024.
The event was held at Jamsil Arena in Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex which marked the group’s 11th debut anniversary and Jin’s first official fan gathering since completing his mandatory military service the day before.
Upon his return as the first BTS member to be discharged, the K-pop idol promised to give free hugs during the fanmeet which elated many of their fans, popularly known as ARMY, who warmly welcomed him during the annual BTS FESTA.
However, during the hug session, a female fan was spotted pressing a kiss onto Jin’s neck while embracing him. The artist appeared uncomfortable from the physical contact as seen in video clips and photos online.
Many fans expressed outrage, condemning the fan’s actions as a violation of personal boundaries and immediately reported it to Big Hit Music, the agency managing BTS, and urged them to take action.
Months after the incident, South Korean authorities has identified the woman in the viral video as a Japanese national in her 50s. However, for security reasons, her identity has not been disclosed.
A Japanese blog allegedly belonging to the culprit, stated, “My lips touched his neck. His skin was soft,” which has now been submitted to the Interpol in Japan for further investigation.
The police also confirmed that they had issued a summons for the woman to explain her actions but have reportedly not received a response from her.
