‘Meteor Garden’ star Barbie Hsu passes away at 48

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the hit “Meteor Garden” series has passed away. She was 48 years old. 

Hsu’s family confirmed the late actress’ passing in an official statement, as reported by local media outlets.

Her sister, Dee Hsu, revealed through her agency that the actress succumbed to influenza-induced pneumonia while on a family trip to Japan.

The whole statement read: 

“Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister Barbie Hsu died of influenza-induced pneumonia and unfortunately left us.”

“I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!”

Barbie is survived by her husband, Koo Jun-yup, and two children from her previous marriage to Wang Xiaofei.

Fans have since taken to social media to pay tribute to Hsu who rose to fame in the Philippines for her iconic role as Shan Cai in the 2001 Asian series “Meteor Garden,” where she starred alongside Jerry Yan (Dao Ming Si), Vaness Wu (Mei Zu), Vic Chou (Hua Ze Lei), and Ken Chu (Xi Men).
