Rufa Mae Quinto voluntarily surrenders to NBI over alleged involvement in ‘fraudulent’ investment scheme

Comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in connection to her alleged involvement with a company under scrutiny for violations of the Securities Regulation Code.

The case made headlines last year alleging Rufa Mae’s involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme tied to Dermacare, a skin care company also linked to former actress and businesswoman Neri Naig-Miranda.

While vehemently denying the accusation, the actress affirmed her innocence by assuring the public of her full cooperation with authorities after being presented with an arrest warrant which her camp clarified was not for large-scale or syndicated estafa, as initially speculated.

In a report by GMA News‘ “Balitanghali” on Wednesday, Quinto arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from San Francisco, California, with her family.

NBI Chief Jimmy De Leon confirmed that her legal counsel had coordinated with the agency to facilitate her surrender.

After undergoing a medico-legal examination, Rufa Mae was taken to the Pasay court, where she is facing 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code which states that securities such as shares and investments may not be sold in the Philippines without a registration statement duly filed with and approved by the SEC, the news outlet reported.

Quinto is expected to post bail and face the charges in court.
