Dennis Trillo, Judy Ann Santos earn third MMFF awards after winning Best Actor, Best Actress

Dennis Trillo and Judy Ann Santos both earned their Metro Manila Film Festival acting awards for the third time after bagging the prestigious Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively at the recently held Gabi ng Parangal.

Dennis clinched the coveted award for his outstanding performance in MMFF 2024 “Best Picture” Green Bones, a film by director Zig Dulay, which revolves around the story of a notorious murderer who is set for release from prison.

In his acceptance speech, Dennis admitted feeling overwhelmed and expressed deep gratitude over the recognition.

“Lagi ko pong sinasabi na ngayong araw ng kapaskuhan, ayaw ko na pong magpaka-stress sa pakikipagkumpitensya o pakikipagpagalingan sa kahit kanino man dahil pakiramdam namin panalo na kami nu’ng naipasok pa lang sa sampung entries dito sa 50th anniversary ng Metro Manila Film Fest ang Green Bones. Kaya palakpakan po natin ang mga sarili natin. Winners tayong lahat.”

The Kapuso actor also dedicated his award to his family, giving a heartfelt shoutout to his wife, Jennylyn Mercado, who was in the audience.

Dennis previously won the same award for “One Great Love,” in 2018. He was also named Best Supporting Actor for “Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita” in 2004.

Judy Ann, meanwhile, bagged her third MMFF Best Actress award at the annual film festival for her lead role in horror film “Espantaho.”

She previously won the award for “Mindanao” in 2019 and “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” in 2006.

“Acting is reacting. Naniniwala akong hindi ko magagawa ang trabaho ko kung hindi dahil sa inyo,” the actress stated in her acceptance speech.

The actress also expressed gratitude to her family whom she dedicates her award to.

“Hindi ko naisip na makakarating ako dito. Sa lahat po ng kapwa ko nominado, para sa ating lahat ito. To God be the glory. Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino,” she added.
