Rufa Mae Quinto’s legal team confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued against the actress in connection with alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code.
The announcement was made by her lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, in an interview with ABS-CBN on Monday evening, Dec. 2.
The case stems from the Rufa Mae’s alleged involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme tied to Dermacare, a company also linked to former actress and businesswoman Neri Naig-Miranda.
Through her lawyer, the actress-comedienne stated that she will voluntarily surrender and face the charges against her. However, Atty. Reyes clarified that the arrest warrant is not for large-scale or syndicated estafa, as initially speculated, but for 14 counts of violations under Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code.
According to the complainants’ lawyer, Quinto and Miranda allegedly encouraged 39 individuals to invest in a company that lacked the proper license to solicit investments.
Rufa Mae also addressed the issue on her social media platforms, vehemently denying the allegations.
“I have no connection whatsoever to any fraudulent activity and I categorically deny these baseless accusations. If anything, I am also a victim and I am determined to seek justice,” she said.
She emphasized her dedication to her career and reputation, which she described as being rooted in integrity and professionalism.
“It is dejecting to see my name being dragged through the mud, but I remain steadfast and confident that the truth will soon prevail,” she added.
Rufa Mae assured the public of her full cooperation with authorities, stating: “I will cooperate fully with the authorities and face this issue through the proper legal forum. Rest assured, I will fight for my name and reputation. To those who have extended their love and support, I am grateful. Let us allow justice to take its course, and I humbly ask for your patience and understanding as the truth unfolds.”
On X, Rufa Mae thanked her followers for supporting during the challenging time, “Salamat everyone for the love and support ! Love is patient and kind … please be kind everyone!”
As of now, no further details have been released regarding the status of Rufa Mae’s co-accused, Neri Miranda. Both actresses are expected to face the allegations in court, as the investigation into the alleged investment scheme continues.
