Carlos Yulo defends girlfriend, questions mother over his sports-related incentives

Filipino Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has broken his silence after being entangled in an online feud involving his mother and girlfriend, following his historic win at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Fresh from his double gold win in the Paris Olympics 2024 Gymnastics competition, Carlos has come forward to address the circulating controversies surrounding his strained relationship with his mother, Angelica.

The national athlete, accompanied by his girlfriend Chloe San Jose, released his statement in a seven-minute TikTok video, posted on his account.

“May mga gusto lang po akong i-clarify doon sa mga interviews at mga sagot ng nanay ko po sa mga interviews niya po,” Yulo addressed the viral interview of his mom, where she described her relationship with him.

He went on to reveal how he was not able to receive the cash incentives he won during the World Championships, which he corrected, took place in 2022.

Carlos further stressed that his main concern is that his mother handled and kept the incentives without his consent.

Carlos also defended Chloe from his mother who claimed that she was distancing the athlete from his family.

The Pinoy sportsman noted how his partner was judged by the way she dressed and acted, and reasoned that it was because Chloe grew up in Australia, hence the difference in their culture.

Furthermore, Carlos also addressed his mother’s allegations about Chloe using up the athlete’s money.

Despite the past remarks, Yulo acknowledged a recent interview of Angelica where she congratulated him on his wins and expressed gratitude his towards her while addressing her past hurtful remarks and lack of support.

He encouraged his mother to heal and move on, stating that he had forgiven her a long time ago, saying, “Ang message ko po sa inyo ma, na mag-heal kayo, mag move on. Napatawad ko na po kayo long time ago.”

Yulo also urged an end to the discord, asking everyone to celebrate the hard work and sacrifices of Filipino athletes at the Olympics.
