Man tries to save dogs but loses them in fire: ‘Sorry, di ako umabot’

This furparent broke the hearts of netizens after losing his four pet dogs to a fire that razed the houses at a residential area in Sta.Cruz, Manila.

A heartbreaking video of resident Rolly Abijay desperately trying to revive his dogs after the fire engulfed his home on Thursday, February 15, has gone viral online.

In the said video posted by ABS-CBN News’ Robert Mano, Abijay was seen performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR) on one his of his dogs, while some fellow fire victims aided in pouring water on his pets.

The dog was rushed to a veterinary clinic but to no avail.

According to ABS-CBN News, Abijay considered his furbabies Kiara, Maui and Kiara as his “best friends”. Luna, the other pet he entrusted to his parent-in-law, also died in the fire.

In an interview with the media outlet, Abijay recalled having hopes that his pets would be okay and made every effort to save them.

“Ganun talaga e, sorry, hindi ako umabot eh. Kalmado lang ako kanina dahil alam kong hindi sila nasunog e, alam kong na-suffocate lang sila,” Abijay said in tears,.

“Kaya sinubukan ko silang i-revive. Lahat ng paraan ginawa ko,” Abijay added.

“Sumusunod lang kasi ako eh pero kung pinilit ko kanina, maaano ko sila eh, habang kahit may apoy,” Abijay expressed his regret, sharing how he would have attempted to save his dogs from the blazing house if it weren’t for the authorities’ safety orders.

Abijay also couldn’t help getting emotional in the same interview, sharing how much his dogs were dear to him.

“Sa umaga, kasabay kong mag-almusal ‘yan. Hinahalikan ako sa labi ng mga ‘yan kaya nagagalit ang asawa ko. Sa totoo lang, ngayon lang ako umiyak sa ganyan, kung medyo maaga na nakauwi ako, siguro hinabol ko talaga. Bibitbitin ko.”

“Yung bahay, puwedeng palitan, pero ‘yung aso medyo mahirap makakita ng aso na ganyan kalambing. Malambing sa akin yang mga aso ko,” Abijay was quoted as saying in an ABS-CBN report.
