Director Sigrid Bernardo, known for her works “Kita Kita” and “Ang Huling Cha-cha ni Anita”, expressed her wish to direct a mature lesbian movie starring award-winning actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Nadine Lustre.
In a report by PEP.ph, direk Sigrid expressed her interest in creating a Girls’ Love(GL) movie top-billed by the two highly-regarded actresses during a recent media conference for the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival held on Monday, January 22.
It can be recalled that Kath and Nadine were already being eyed by fans and netizens to star in the remake of the classic 1982 film “T-bird at Ako”, which featured homosexuality as one of its themes.
Likewise, when asked about the concept, Bernardo drew inspiration from the iconic film which starred veteran actresses: Vilma Santos who played a heterosexual character while Nora Aunor portrayed a character exploring her sexuality.
“Puwedeng ano, T-bird at Ako. I would love to direct them in a lesbian movie, a mature lesbian movie,” Direk Sigrid said.
She mentioned the two actresses’ remarkable talent of acting, saying, “Nahuhusayan ako dun sa dalawa. And alam mo iyon, ang tagal ko nang hindi gumagawa ng lesbian movie, ‘di ba?”
Bernardo hinted at a storyline where both Kathryn and Nadine’s characters are established lesbians, emphasizing that it would not be a “coming out” story but rather a “portrayal of their experiences in a relationship”.
“I really want to do a film na mature naman, yung nasa right age sila. About relationships, about the struggles of being in a relationship,” Direk Sigrid stated.
When asked about her preferred sexuality of the character, she responded, “Siyempre gusto ko, lesbian talaga. Dalawa sila (Kathryn and Nadine). Hindi na siya coming out. About relationship na.”
Expressing her desire for the film to resonate with the audience, especially with the boom of BL and GL series nowadays, Director Sigrid stated, “It’s about time tanggapin na nila yung ganito… I think this is the right timing, feeling ko, na gumawa.”
Drawing parallels to the classic T-bird at Ako, Bernardo mentioned a potential title for the film.
“Two Birds,” the director said with a smile.
