Is Ruby Ruiz the new Dolly De Leon in the making?
The official trailer for the newest Amazon Prime series, “Expats” was finally released on Tuesday, December 19, featuring Hollywood actresses Nicole Kidman and Amelyn Pardenilla, and veteran Filipina actress Ruby Ruiz as part of the cast.
Adapted from Janice Y. K. Lee’s 2016 novel “The Expatriates,” the six-part limited series is directed by Lulu Wang and revolves around a group of women after a single encounter sets off a chain of life-altering events.
Ruby plays the role of Nicole’s nanny.
As the first Filipina to secure a role in the series, comparisons arise with fellow seasoned actress, Dolly de Leon, who gained fame in Hollywood for her performance in the Palme d’Or-winning film “Triangle of Sadness.”
In a previous interview with Ruiz, the actress said Filipinos were well-represented in the series.
“Maganda ang representation ng Filipinos dito,” she said.
The show will premiere on the mentioned digital streaming platform on January 26, 2024.
