Sheynnis Palacios becomes Nicaragua’s first-ever Miss Universe

Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Universe 2023 during the coronation night of the prestigious pageant on Sunday.

Palacios surpassed 83 contestants to assume the title from Filipino-American R’Bonney Gabriel, making her the first Nicaraguan representative to win the Miss Universe crown.

Following Palacios, Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild was announced as the first runner-up, with Moraya Wilson of Australia claiming the second runner-up position.

During the question-and-answer portion, the final three remaining candidates were given the question:  “If you could live in one year, if you could live one year in another woman’s shoes, who would you choose and why?”

To which the new Miss Universe titleholder answered, “I would choose Mary Watson-Brad because she opened the gap and gave an opportunity to many women. And what I would do, I would want that gap, that income gap, would open up so that women could work in any area that they choose to work in because there are no limitations for women. That was 1750. Now, in 2023, we’re making history.”

Meanwhile, PH bet Michelle Dee ended her Miss Universe stint after failing to make it into the Top 5 finalists.
