Lala Sotto: ‘Lahat ng shows binabantayan, lalo na SPG’

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson Lala Sotto said they are keeping an eye on all programs and addressing complaints, particularly ones that are suggesting Strong Parental Guidance (SPG).

“Lahat ng shows binabantayan. Lalo na lahat ng SPG,” Sotto said.

“Higher ang tolerance talaga for SPG, precisely why they are rated SPG,” she added.

Sotto made the remark during an interview with the press, hours after the board issued its decision to junk It’s Showtime’s motion for consideration to suspend the show for 12 airing days.

The MTRCB chair also maintained that the same verdict will be imposed should other programs commit the same violations.

“I don’t think mahigpit kami. Kung makakatikim din ang ibang shows ng apat na warnings at pitong dismissed cases tapos ganun din ka-grabe, sa pananaw ng Board ang naging epekto na na-bother sila na may mga bata ganun din naman ang mangyayari dun sa ibang shows kapag ‘yan din ang gagawin,” said Sotto.

It can be recalled that MTRCB issued a decision to suspend It’s Showtime for 12 airing days on September 4, after receiving multiple complaints concerning an episode wherein the program’s hosts allegedly “acted in an indecent manner” during one of its segments, “Isip Bata”.

ABS-CBN in return, submitted a motion for reconsideration, stating “there was no violation of pertinent law.”

After the Kapamilya network said they are currently “exploring all our remedies and options” while the imposed suspension is not yet final and executory, as of the latest development, it said it was going to instead serve the 12-day suspension starting Oct. 14.
