The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has released an official statement on Monday, Sept. 25, addressing complaints concerning Joey de Leon’s “insensitive” remark during a segment of TV5 noontime variety show E.A.T.
“Taking cognizance of the complaints from the viewing public in relation to E.A.T. Gimme 5 segment aired last 23 September 2023, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) shall determine if the same are valid and presumably violative of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and/ or its Implementing Rules and Regulations,” read MTRCB’s statement.
A press release came from the board a few days after the “Gimme 5” segment of the show aired last Saturday, Sept. 23 where a contestant participated in a game where he had to name objects that related to the category “necklace”.
After failing to complete the needed words before the time mark, main host Joey then suggested “lubid” as something that can be worn around the neck, which did not sit well with netizens.
The E.A.T. mainstay faced criticisms online and was called out for the “insensitive” remark that they took to mean as pertaining to suicide. His comment also prompted netizens to call the attention of MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto.
Lala is the daughter of Joey’s co-host and close friend, former Sen. Tito Sotto.
Earlier, the MTRCB issued a decision to suspend the ABS-CBN noontime program It’s Showtime for 12 airing days following alleged “indecent act” in its July 25 episode of the segment Isip Bata.
