Bretman Rock seeks public’s help for Maui wildfire victims

Hawaii-based Fil-Am internet sensation Bretman Rock took to social media to seek help for the victims of the devastating wildfires in the towns of Maui and Lahaina in Hawaii.

The massive blaze that ravaged the Hawaii islands has reached 93 fatalities, making it the deadliest wildfire in the United States in more than a century, according to international news agency Reuters.

Reports say that the death toll is likely to rise as multiple fires are still burning in some areas and rescue operations are ongoing.

On Tuesday, August 15, Bretman posted photos of the disaster on his verified Instagram account, seeking help to support the wildfire victims.

“Please Help Maui if you can ❤️,” he wrote in the caption, together with the names of the people who are offering information and assistance to those who were affected by the disaster.

In a separate post, Bretman uploaded a video of him explaining the situation of the islands and residents affected by the fire.

“I’m making this video because I hope and I know you guys have already seen and probably heard of what is going on in the islands of Maui and everything that has happened to the town of Lahaina,” said Bretman.

He continued, “Last week a wildfire completely wiped out the town of Lahaina and Maui needs our help more than ever.”

“I am going to try to keep myself accountable and keeping it updated as more information comes,” Bretman added.

The influencer also created a story highlight on his Instagram page that compiled all the information he shared, as well as a direct link to a fundraising page for the people of Maui.

The fundraising has received over 70,000 donations and reached an amount of “P122,355,211.42 raised of P57,075,791.46” as of writing.

“Please keep Maui, Lahaina in your thoughts and prayers ? we are with you Maui ?,” Bretman wrote at the end of his message.
