The families of longtime couple Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde met last weekend for a pamamanhikan as the two prepare to tie the knot.
Pamamanhikan is a pre-wedding custom where a man formally asks for a woman’s hand in marriage in the presence of her family.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, June 25, veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez posted a video of their arrival at Maine’s house with a caption: “The Very Important destination ❤️”.
The video showed the car of Sylvia’s family as they entered a street with a row of SUVs parked in front of the house of the Kapuso actress.
Sylvia noted that the owners of the SUVs parked outside “Casa Mendoza” were the Ataydes, “Andito lahat ng kotse ng Atayde.”
As their car stopped in front of a gate, Maine can be seen exiting the premise and approaching the vehicle to greet her future mother-in-law.
“Menggay,” Sylvia greeted Maine, “Nakarating na rin kami sa wakas. Bababa na ako (ng sasakyan) at magkikita na tayo diyan.”
It seemed that Sylvia’s previous “travel” post on Instagram with a similar caption referring to an “important destination” already hinted at the Atayde-Mendoza pamamanhikan.
Maine and Arjo got engaged on July 29, 2022, after more than three years of being a couple.
They celebrated their fourth anniversary as a couple last December 2022.
The pair met as co-stars in the 2018 comedy film Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles and made their relationship official in 2019. According to sources, the couple will marry in a Northern Luzon destination by the last part of July.
