For the first time, Kapuso reel and real life couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will headline a new movie under ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.
“The collaboration you thought would never happen,” Star Cinema teased on Twitter. “These royalties are ready to shoot for the stars, breaking ground with another empire.”
On Wednesday, June 21, it was announced during the “New Movie Alert: DongYan” event, that the couple will star in a family drama titled “Rewind”, a joint film by Star Cinema, APT Entertainment, and AgostoDos Media.
The film will be directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar and will follow the screenplay written by Enrico Santos, with the creative direction of Carmi Raymundo and Daisy Cayanan-Mejares as its creative manager.
Dingdong revealed that the film took “years in the making,” marking his and Marian’s comeback on the big screens after over a decade.
“I always look forward to working with her. Whether [it] be on television or [film], mas lalo na ngayon sa big screen dahil ang tagal naming ‘di nagsama,” Dingdong said.
“Finally, makakasama ko na ulit si Dong sa isang napakagandang pelikula,” Marian added.
According to Mae, Rewind centers around family drama “with a touch of magic realism” and will revolve around “second chances” and answering the question: “How far would you go to get that second chance?”
“This movie specifically is not just a way to look at relationships with our family but it’s also a way to look at how we live our lives,” Daisy added.
“Walang tapon sa script. Walang dahilan para hindi ko ‘to gawin, especially kasama ko si Dong. Gagawin ko ‘yan kahit mahirapan ako sa schedule,” Marian said on her decision to do the film.
Star Cinema noted that Rewind will be Dingdong and Marian’s first movie as a married couple.
“Now is the better time. [Dingdong] and Marian can do the role and the movie even more justice now. As a couple also and as parents, the’yre so much stronger in their relationship,” APT boss Mike Tuviera affirmed.
“Underneath the family story, the core is a love story. There is a kilig underneath the signature Star Cinema kilig but we tailored it only for them,” Enrico said on why Dingdong and Marian are fit for their roles in the film.
Rewind is set to release in cinemas this 2023.
