Miss Universe Phl 2023 Michelle Dee explains pride flag tweet

Newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee has pledged her full support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The beauty queen and actress stirred online buzz after she posted a rainbow flag emoji in a tweet and in an Instagram story on Wednesday, May 17, at the same time her throwback photos from her teenage years made rounds on social media.

Some netizens suggested that Michelle was celebrating the May 17 observance of International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

Meanwhile, Michelle got to clarify her tweet in an interview with One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang, reiterating her support to the LGBT community.

“I’ve always been an advocate for autism awareness, mental health and  the LGBT community.

“There is some noise around social media right now so I just want to stand firm with my ground and show everybody in the LGBT community that I stand with them and I am an ally for them as well,” stated Michelle.

Michelle has long been vocal in supporting the LGBT community. In 2022, she helped raised funds for the LGBT organizations in celebration of Pride Month.

She also wrote in a 2018 post on Instagram: “I hear you, I support you, and I will always march with you. Let’s keep making waves together. So proud of the #LGBT community!!!”

Michelle, daughter of former beauty queen and actress Melanie Marquez, is set to represent the Philippines at the 2023 Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador later this year.
