Senior citizen wows online community with baking skills

A 63-year-old woman from Bulacan received praises from netizens after she showed off her baking skills online.

Pia Halili Villano recently featured her mom, Nanay Purita, on her TikTok account. To their surprise, many individuals were interested and curious about Nanay Purita’s journey as a baker.

Nanay Purita has enjoyed baking since the ‘80s. She then decided to make a living out of it after she resigned from her day job in order to focus on her family.

Malaking tulong kasi naitaguyod namin ‘yung apat naming anak. Naka-graduate sila lahat at ngayon nagtratrabaho na,” she added.

She noted that customers love her chiffon cake with boiled icing. She said that she wanted to continue baking as it brings her joy and extra income.

Nanay Purita said.

“Nung before pandemic, hanggang 25 cakes nagagawa ko ‘yun during weekends. Pagkatapos ng pandemic ngayon medyo bumabalik na ulit,” she added.

Nanay Purita said that she prefers using her old baking tools and working alone to finish her orders.

Nanay Purita said she was glad when Pia also showed interest in baking.

So habang lumalaki ako parang nade-develop din sa ‘kin ‘yung love for baking,” Pia recalled.

They now work hand on hand to manage their home-based pastry business.

“Magkaiba ‘yung set of customers namin, magkaiba kami ng style. Pero at the same time, nagtutulungan pa rin naman kami when it comes to ideas,” Pia said.

Nanay Purita encourages the public to continue doing what they love.

“Kung ano ‘yung gusto niyo talaga, ituloy lang nila,” she said.

“If you love and it’s your passion pwede ka talagang magtagal sa career na pinili mo,” Pia echoed.
