Single mom from Sarangani graduates from college, now a soon-to-be teacher

This 29-year-old woman has been creating various kinds of furniture since she was young. In 2022, she was able to create her own masterpiece after completing her BS Education degree at the Southeastern College of Padada, Inc. last August 31, 2022!

Single mother Shayne Aniñon-Lamanilao said that she initially had no plans of continuing her studies due to financial reasons.

“Wala akong plan na magaral talaga. Kasi first, ‘yung financial needs. Pagdating ng araw, makakatulong po saakin,” she told The Philippine STAR.

In 2019, she decided to enroll in college.

Nakapag enroll ako,” she said.

Thankfully, she was able to secure a scholarship that allowed her to finish her degree. Shayne’s journey was indeed a roller coaster ride, but despite the difficulties, she was determined to give her children a better future.

Paano sila kung wala ako, sinong kakapitan nila?” she added.

Shayne offers her success to her daughter, who is deaf and mute. It was also her reason why she chose to be an educator someday.

After her graduation, Shayne plans to focus on reviewing for the LET board exam next year to become a licensed teacher.

Shayne hopes that her story would inspire other moms and young individuals to finish their studies.

Nag fight ka until the end, hanggang maachive mo ang success,” she noted.
