‘Nalulong ako sa drugs’: Christopher de Leon opens up on a tough time in his life

Veteran actor Christopher de Leon has opened up on his past battle with drug addiction and how he lost his connection to God.

In a heart-to-heart interview with his good friend, veteran actress Amy Austria, the actor expressed how his success in the industry led him to lose his way.

“Nalulong ako sa masamang bisyo. I was taking all the drugs because of all the fame, you have all the money, success,” he said.

He added: “Nawala na ako, nawala na ang Diyos sa akin.”

Christopher shared he was only a teenager when he “crossed the line” when he first experimented with different drugs.

What had helped him rise above from this dark time was a bump in his marriage with Sandy Andolong.

“Sabi ko, ayokong maapektuhan ang pamilya ko tulad ng nangyari sa family ko. Yung broken family na yung family ko and then yung first relationship and marriage, it was all broken.

“I cannot do this, I cannot afford to do this again and so I had to give up, I had to say: ‘God, save me,'” he shared.

The 65-year-old said that with the help of God’s guidance he was able to overcome his addiction without needing drug rehabilitation.

He then shared his advice for those who are going through or have gone through the same struggle: “The only thing I can say is, hang on to God. Kapit and then read the Bible.”
