A man from Navotas, who used to smoke 10 cigarettes a day, decided to quit smoking after 28 years and started saving the money he would spend on his tobacco habit.
A Facebook post by netizen Analyn Candolea Manipis went viral online after she shared how her husband was able to save P4,360 in two months after he stopped smoking.
The STAR’s Latestchika.com learned from Analyn that her husband Sherwin Manipis became a chain smoker after having his first cigarette at the age of 15.
According to her, Sherwin, 43, attempted to quit smoking several times in the past but had a hard time accomplishing it.
It was not until he began to feel the health consequences of smoking that he became serious with his plan, making it his New Year’s resolution to stop smoking and save the money instead.
“Bago pumasok ‘tong 2021, New Year’s Resolution niya titigil na siya manigarilyo.
With discipline and perseverance, Sherwin has never lit a cigarette again.
Dinisiplina niya sarili niya at nakaya niya,” Analyn said.
She still couldn’t believe that her husband made it, but she and the rest of the family couldn’t be any prouder of him.
‘Di ko talaga sya inexpect na mag-viral. Nakakatuwa nga kasi marami pala inspired dun. Proud kasi ako. Di ko talaga akalain na makakaya niya,” Analyn said.
The mother-of-three also hopes that her husband’s story will inspire others to kick the smoking habit.
Sherwin will continue saving money on his piggy bank until December and will spend the money for Christmas presents for his kids.
