Sharon Cuneta is clueless about rumors of daughter KC Concepcion dating Apl.de.ap

Is KC Concepcion dating Apl.de.ap, the Filipino-American member of the Grammy-winning hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas?

KC’s mom Sharon Cuneta is clueless about the dating rumors. She looked genuinely surprised when asked about it on the sidelines of the presscon for her contract renewal with ABS-CBN on Thursday.

“What do you mean? Again, again, again, can you ask me the question?” Sharon threw the question back at reporters.

But it was a firm “no” from her when asked again if she had any idea at all.

“But I have a lot of respect for Apl.de.ap,” the megastar was quick to say.

“See, I don’t know what’s happening to my daughter in her life,” she laughed.

Apl, 45 and KC, 34 go a long way back as friends, although Apl whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo once admitted he had a crush on KC and in fact, courted Sharon’s eldest child.

“I was [serious] at the moment, you know. But unfortunately, time didn’t connect well and I got too busy. But, you know, we are still friends,” he said in an ABS-CBN report back in 2013.

There have been some more recent sightings of the two “hanging out together,” particularly during the Southeast Asian Games closing ceremony, where the Black Eyed Peas was the headliner, early December at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, and during the Christmas break.

“That’s a surprise to me, I don’t know what to say. But I have a lot of respect for Apl. He’s a good person. I just wished I heard it from her, if it’s true,” Sharon said.

KC’s last publicly known relationship was with the French businessman-filmmaker Pierre Plassart, whom Sharon admitted she was close to.

“Close ako kay Pierre. Tuwang tuwa ako na sila kasi second time around nila and we really thought it was going there, finally,” Sharon admitted. “I miss Pierre because he’s a good person, just as I miss Aly (Borromeo, also KC’s ex-boyfriend).”

The new dating rumors come amid the “non-communication” between mother and daughter, by Sharon’s admission in a lengthy open letter addressed to KC and shared on her social media on Wednesday. She said it was her response to KC’s birthday greeting for her, not personal or made in private, but via Instagram.

KC, she hinted at in the post, has been purposely distancing herself, missing out on family occasions during the holidays and even her birthday on January 6.

During the media interview, Sharon admitted that KC has yet to call or text her.

“It’s not like her eh,” Sharon said. “Siguro kasi she’s older, and as we grow older, maybe you feel the less need to consult your parents. But in our family kasi, pinagdaanan ko rin yun, you always have to pay respect to parents, and giving them the respect by letting them know how well you are, how you are, who you are with, ayoko naman na makikita ko nalang sa dyaryo ano ang nangyayari sa anak ko.”

Sharon further explained why she had to make the open letter.

“Parang nag-aalala ako, siempre nanay ko, I think it’s normal lang sa isang ina na may mga panahon na ganyan. I’m just worried because I don’t know what she’s going through. I know that she’s going to get in touch with us soon but I miss her,” she said. “It all boils down to a mother missing her daughter. That’s all.”

KC has yet to react to her mother’s lament as of presstime.
