Gary Valenciano sends message to Pres. Duterte: ‘I’ll keep you covered in prayer’

-

Gary Valenciano chooses to pray for President Duterte amid “so many opinions” over the government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

Following President Duterte’s late-night speech on Monday, the Filipino singer-songwriter sent out a message to the nation’s leader.

“To our president, President Rodrigo Duterte, there are so many opinions after each time you speak, but I choose to look over all that’s said and simply follow what I know my God wants me to do; and that is to keep you covered in prayer. God bless you sir…God bless us all,” read Valenciano’s tweet.

The 55-year-old performer’s tweet has since garnered over 100,000 likes and 26,000 retweets on Twitter.

The government’s response to the current health crisis has been hit by critics online.

In a televised public address last Friday, Duterte told people who are not satisfied with how the administration is handling the pandemic can freely criticize him.

“I govern properly and right. If it makes you happy, then you smile. If not, you criticize me,” he said.

“Walang pigil, social media, lahat kayo,” he added.

Meanwhile, Valenciano’s tweet received mixed reactions, some of which he addressed.
