This aspiring fashion designer from Iloilo uses materials found in nature to create beautiful gown sketches.
Edgian James Calapardo Florida’s hand-drawn gown sketches are fused with unconventional materials such as petals, leaves, beans and even corn kernels!
He told the STAR’s LatestChika that he gathers most of his materials just outside his home. Some pieces are even joined by rare plants he found in a forest.
The incoming grade 12 STEM student from Janiuay National Comprehensive High School in Janiuay, a town in the province of Iloilo, began his journey with art when he decided to combine his love for nature and fashion design.
Edgian’s inspiration for his artworks come from his desire to use his talent to lift his family from poverty. He is also influenced by Kapampangan designer Mak Tumang.
“Hope makapagbigay ako ng inspirasyon ngayong pandemya at matupad ko ang pangarap ko maging fashion designer balang araw,” he said.
The young artist said his creations are not for sale since they are a reminder of his dream to become a fashion designer.
