Kyline Alcantara talks self-love and embracing imperfections

Kapuso teen actress Kyline Alcantara recently made her big-screen debut in Black Lipstick.

In the movie, Kyline plays the role of Ikay who suffers from vitiligo, a medical condition that causes white patches in your skin. She is described as a living meme and has become the target of the “meanies” in her university. But upon the discovery of the black lipstick, which makes her skin flawless when applied, Ikay also starts living a double life as the social media influencer Jessie.

In an interview with Latest Chika, the young actress shared that she had a personal attachment to her character in the movie because of her experiences in real life.

“Sobrang natural ng atake ko sa kanya kasi sobrang nakaka-relate ako dun sa character. I’m like Jessie/Ikay na hinahanap pa rin yung sarili… I’m still learning to love myself just like Ikay,” she said.

“Katulad ni Jessie/Ikay nakakadanas din siya nun, and na-overcome niya yung bullying na yun, yung pagkawala ng self-confidence niya, sa pag-accept niya sa sarili niya and sa pag-accept niya sa imperfections niya,” she added.

Love yourself. This is Kyline’s way of self-acceptance. She imparted that it’s important that it should start with yourself.

“Love your imperfections, uniqueness and authenticity…I believe na kailangan mag-start sa sarili mo muna bago ka makapag-spread ng pagmamahal sa ibang tao,” she said.

Recently, the young actress shared on Instagram photos of her bare face almost covered with zits alongside a lengthy caption that told her struggle with acne.

Kyline admitted that at first, she thought she would get bashed for it, but the reaction turned out to be the exact opposite. Instead, her post has empowered those who are also dealing with the same problem to speak up on their own struggle.

“I’m really happy na ang daming naka-appreciate nung post. Ang daming na-inspired. Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam,” an ecstatic Kyline shared.

Kyline stressed again, “Sana matutunan niyong mahalin ang sarili niyo. Kung pinu-pursue niyo yung perfect na pagkatao, perfect na itsura, you will never achieve that. You will never achieve perfections because all of us are perfectly imperfect. ‘Yun ang nagpapa-unique sa ating lahat.”

Aside from her big-screen break, Kyline is set to do a teleserye and concert next year.
